Prospective Arts Group Planned for Mansbridge

We are hoping to set up an ongoing arts/crafts group for the Mansbridge area, with the support of Swaythling Housing and St Marys Church.
The group could involve Music, Art, Carnival Workshops, Drama, Photography, and even trips out, anything that helps bring people without costing a lot of money!

The first meeting of the new group will be at
St Mary’s Church Hall – Wessex lane, South Stoneham
On Friday 28th September at 10am.

There will be a presentation explaining the project and showing example ideas, followed by refreshments and a chance to chat

If you're feeling in a bit of a rut, this could be just what you need! You don't need to be particularly talented in any area; just a willingness to meet people and have fun is all that’s required!

YMCA Tenant Reps group - 18-25s

'Float your boat'

In June, 25 out of the 40 residents at the YMCA in London Road, Bevois Town took part in a Boat Building project supported by Community Builders and lead by Colin Jones.

Celebration! - Colin is a talented chap who can pick up a guitar as well as a saw. So once the Catamaran was built, in August it was christened at a naming ceremony that doubled up as a barn dance (accompanied by Colin’s band) and proudly launched in a nearby lake the next day. All in all, a good laugh for everyone involved - and a great way to show the local community outside that when YMCA residents put their minds to something, the results are impressive!

Young Mums art group in Bargate Ward - 18-25s

Celebration! - Do you live in St Mary's or Bargate? Did your child decorate this ball at a local festival? See it displayed at the Central Housing Office and a photo display in St Mary's Surgery.

'St Mary's Coming Together' - a summer of festival fun

Covered in hands decorated by the children of St Mary's and Bargate Ward, this fabulous gold was a 3-part build that started at the K2 Knowledge Youth Festival on 7th July, was added to at St Mary's Community Festival on 14th July, and finished off at the final K2 Festival on 4th August.

Meanwhile the mums' hands were given a french manicure and invited to join our new young mums group that is due to launch in October. The group is still in the planning stages but the idea is possibly to have an arts group for adults that works towards large scale festival builds.

If this is something that would interest you, then get in touch so we can let you know about the first meeting.
