Polska Grupa Artystycnza - Gallery visit

'Members of Polska Grupa Artystycnza enjoy Civic Centre Gallery visit'

Organised by Dave Adcock of EU Welcome and promoted jointly by both EU Welcome and the CB Project, a guided tour of the Civic Art Gallery was given on Tuesday evening on the 10th October. The tour was led by the Head Curator of the Gallery, Tim Craven and translated by Agnieska.

Up to 17 people came along to hear about the history of Southampton Gallery and its collection of Art. And half of these were at the Polska Grupa ARtystycnza the week before. The group heard about the international reputation of the City's Gallery and that pieces of its collection have gone all over the world, although none to date have gone to Poland!

They also heard about the art work that the gallery has from Eastern Europe, which is now gaining great interest in the art community.

Next Meeting of Polska Grupa Artystycnza:
Thursday 25 October
7.15 - 9.15
St Albans Church, Swaythling

All welcome, you don't have to be Polish to come along!
Tea and cakes provided

Mini Millbrook Group - VIP visit at Sure Start

'Mini Millbrook group get the VIP treatment'

Martin Pryor, Job Centre Plus District Manager (sat next to Kerry) and Cllr Peter Bailey of Bittern Park take a keen interest in the group's work, on a VIP visit to Pickles Coppice, Sure Start.

It was a great opportunity for the group to show off their designs for the Queen Victoria Christmas Carnival in December and to tell Martin about the skills they were learning that can later be used in a job.

And just to keep you updated on the group's progress - well, they're not short of ideas in Millbrook. Here's Michaela with all the designs the group came up for their logo. (She's been busy at home coming up with embossed designs for posters and cards). But how will they agree on just one logo?

If you look closely, you can see the designs for the sleighs the group have come up. These will be made out of cardboard and will cover their buggies to drive round 'little pixies' in.....but only well behaved pixies!
They've already designed their prototype and it just needs a few finishing touches.

Friends of Central Parks

Would you like to become more involved in, and have more say in your Central Parks?
Community Builders are teaming up with Park Ranger, Gary Oscroft, to help form a representative community group that will have a part to play in how the parks develop as part of the cultural life of the city.

Southampton’s Central Parks are unique. They have been awarded Green Flag status three times and are listed for their importance as a heritage and leisure facility.
With the future looking bright for the parks it would be good to have a friends group up and running within the next year which will enable us to move forward (with your involvement) on future park plans and events .

We are currently looking for people who would like to get involved in a friends group. You don't need any special qualifications, just your enthusiasm and willingness to have fun, while helping to increase the communities feeling of ownership and guardianship of a wonderful resource.

Please contact either Gary or Stuart at Community Builders to register your interest. Once we have a dozen names or so, we will arrange the first meeting of the group.
